Searching For ACL Physical Therapy In Roswell Or East Cobb?
What You Need To Know
Who does your surgical repair is extremely important. What you do AFTER surgery and where you go for rehab matters. If you've torn your ACL, the research shows that about 45% of athletes never return to their prior level of performance AND 1 in 3 of those athletes either retear the same ACL or tear the other ACL. Why are these considered "reasonable" odder? Is there a better solution to getting the results you want while avoiding the 45%? The good news is that you can drastically reduce the risk of re-injury and boost your chances of FULL recovery through proper rehabilitation and objective testing of the knee before you return to sport. Our Physical Therapists are experts in ACL rehab and would love the opportunity to help you.
The 5 Step Plan To ACL Success
STEP 1: Restore Range Of Motion; Maintain Strength & Cardiovascular Fitness
After surgery, your muscles begin to atrophy and progressive loss of strength is almost immediate. The earlier we intervene and stop the loss, the swifter your progress will be in the later stages of rehabilitation.
During the early stage of recovery, the primary goal is reclaiming range of motion without aggressively forcing it. Knee stiffness post surgery is normal but restoring full range of motion, specifically knee extension (straight), is pivotal in a successful recovery.
It's important to remember that only one leg underwent surgery. We'll create a plan to keep you training the unaffected leg, upper body and cardiovascular system while keeping the affected leg protected throughout your recovery.
Within the whole realm of athletic performance, the difference between success and failure hinges on a handful of core attributes. The attributes can be likened to the foundation of a pyramid, prioritize their development to minimize setbacks and maximize progress.
During Step 2 - the intermediate phase of recovery - our team closely collaborates with you to restore foundational levels of strength and power. Our Doctors of Physical Therapy, who are experts not only in therapy but also strength and conditioning, you'll receive tailored programs carefully designed to shepherd you through each stage. Dedication to the process falls on you - the heavy begins now.
STEP 2: Restore Physical Capacity
STEP 3: Speed & Agility
Once you've developed a mastery of the fundamental levels of flexibility, power and strength we will seamlessly integrate these abilities into dynamic movements similar to those encountered on the field, court, mat, etc.
In personalized, one-on-one sessions with your Doctor of Physical Therapy, you'll engage in acceleration, deceleration and change of direction drills. This hands-on approach ensures proficiency in executing these maneuvers with optimal body mechanics but also builds confidence in the body and skillset before reentering practice or competition.
Each athlete's recovery is a unique experience. The only way to ensure the body is completely healed is by measuring and tracking progress. This approach allows us to verify your program's effectiveneess and confirms, objectively, that you're safe to return to the field.

Research shows that even basic objective testing can reduce the risk of a second ACL tear by up to 84%. The issue arises from many healthcare professionals not using objective testing before giving the green light for a return to play. A recent study found that only 14% of physical therapists use objective measures beyond the length of time since the day of surgery when clearing an athlete for return to sport. Only waiting for time to pass is insufficient for complete healing and restoring strength in the leg.
STEP 4: Testing and Return To Play
STEP 5: Maintenance
One of the most critical steps in reducing your risk of re-injury is adhering to a structured maintenance program. Upon completing your treatment at our clinic, you'll receive a comprehensive plan for returning to your sport and maintaining your fitness throughout the season and beyond.
We'll equip you with a highly detailed warm-up protocol designed to mitigate your risk of re-injury. Additionally, you'll receive an in-season strength training regimen to maintain your strength during the competitive season.
We also offer periodic reassessments to monitor your progress and ensure that any asymmetries between the two legs do not reemerge.
Combining an effective rehab program, objective measurements and a thorough maintenance program will help you overcome the odds and help you to excel in your sport.
